Who Killed Kong?

August 13, 2006

Kong Sculpture Before

The above 10 feet, 20 tonne sand sculpture of King King was carved as part of an international beach art event at Western-super-Mare in July.

It was due to remain on display until September, but last Wednesday night, it was destroyed by vandals:

This is the second time in two months sand sculptures have been vandalised, after three sand statues depicting buildings of ancient Greece were damaged at a festival at Great Yarmouth in Norfolk.

Police are appealing for more information.

Apparently ‘bottles were found buried in the sand’. Does this lead to the *shocking* conclusion that alcohol may have been involved?

I wonder if anyone has sent the sculpturer an e-card in commiserations?
